As you saw earlier during our product tour, a ‘new batch’ is created on the Process Control screen by selecting an applicable batch type from the ‘New Batch’ window’s list of available batch types. The selection of a batch type is the first step required prior scanning items into the system, but how are those batch types created and what purpose do they serve?

Batch Types are selected in order to define specific attributes that will be applied to each new batch and the items scanned into that batch.  Additionally, they help to visually categorize the batches displayed on the Process Control screen.  The Batch Type Wizard is used in order to create new Batch Profiles or to customize existing ones.  The Wizard walks you step-by-step through the process of batch type profile creation.  From a simple ‘scan-only’ batch for used for microfilm replacement to a full-featured multi-purpose solution, batches can be set up for any or all of the Scan, Edit/Verify or Batch Balancing processes.

Some of the key ‘Batch Type’ profile options include: Image type selection (black & white, greyscale or color); mandatory/optional settings per MICR index field selection, account verification, deposit slip inclusion, unqualified account logging, clearing file comparison, amount limit notification and logging, item endorsing, sorting, and encoder extract creation.
